A Trip to Singapore Coins And Notes Museum

The Singapore Coins and Notes Museum is celebrating it’s 1 Year anniversary on 1st July and because of that, entrance is free from 3 to 5 July! It’s normally $10 for an adult and $6 for Students/NSF/Senior Citizens and Children to enter. The Museum is located at a very hard to find location, 2 Trengganu Street, which has it’s entrance at Pagoda Street. It’s around China Town area in short.

(The AOA stands for Ash On Air. I’m starting to put Watermarks on my Pictures) :)

If you are headed to the Museum look out for this Coffee Shop. It’s right above it. If you can’t spot it, it is opposite the Chinatown Heritage Centre.

It’s an Old Style place with an Old Style Elevator. It rocks! (but it is VERY slow)

So once there, what’s there to do? Well, you can watch a video on Singapore and the Coins and Notes in the Video Room or look around and look at Coins, Notes and More. There is 2 floors to the place, level 3 and level 4. Here’s some of the things you can see.

Cool eh?

Well, the best part of this place has got to be the “Coin” Minting Machine!!

Excerpt Taken from the Coins and Notes Museum Website:

“Coin” Minting Machine

Enjoy your very own minting experience over at Singapore Coins and Notes Museum. You do not only get to view the machine operates, you get to bring home a piece of our museum’s souvenir. Be sure to try it out on your own as you only get to experience this machine at our Singapore Coins and Notes Museum.

Now, this is the most AWESOME part of the Museum. Minting your OWN coin. Now there’s 2 way of getting to do this:-

a)Play their game at the Museum and Answer their questions. If you get 10 or more points, you get take a slip of paper in a lucky draw. If you are lucky enough, you’ll get 1 free coin to mint!

b)Pay $2 to mint the coin

How awesomely awesome? So what do you get when you mint the coin? You get a nice Red Velvet string bag and a blank disc which will soon become YOUR coin.

I took a video of the process! It’s really fun!

I went to get 5 coins. 1 was from the game and I got it for free. The other 4 I went to buy them. Why have so many coins? They are bigger than the 50 Cents coin and have a nice Merlion head. I’m going to use them for my Coin Magic!! :D They feel so nice! These coins are NOT LEGAL TENDER and have NO MONETARY VALUE. They are only souvenirs.

Here’s the coins. I got 5 of the coins and 5 velvet red string bags.

Actually, that was my sole purpose to go there. :P Get the coins for my Coin Magic. They are so nice, shiny, thin and big! So those Singapore Magicians out there, these are an alternative to US Half Dollars!

Here’s some random photos:

A $10000 note is HUGE!!

The Quest To Find The Burger King Wallet

The morning was a cold one on 3rd July 2010 as I set off in search of the fabled BK Wallet that contained vouchers from Burger King and more.

It was mentioned in the facebook account of Burger King that the wallet dropping will occur at 2 locations. One at Starhub Tampines Mall (opens 10:30am) and the other at Topshop/Topman Marina Sq (opens 11:30am).

Tampines was convenient, so I headed there.

I reached there at around 10am and was surprised that there were so many people in the mall so early in the morning.

What were they Queuing up for?

I then checked around and realised that it was the Hokkaido Fair in Tampines Mall. No wonder.

It was 10:13am and still early so I decided to walk around more and guess what I saw!

03072010470

The FREE PLAY Digimon machine and there was NO crowd unlike Takashimaya!

Guess where it was.

03072010472 Yup. Right Outside Toys’R’us. Awesome!!

It was about to be 10:30am so I headed to Starhub and just waited around there.

03072010459

By the time I reached there, there was already a short queue outside Starhub. I thought to myself, “Oh! So many people here early in the morning to buy a new phone. Mm.. Must be because it was a Saturday”.

While waiting, I peered into the shop and saw 3 wallets inside. 1 was hanging on the Queue pole line and 2 more were stucked into the chairs. “Great! I’ll just walk in slowly and inconspicuously just take 1. Won’t be greedy and take 2…” I said to myself.

Once it was time, the Starhub stuff started to open the glass doors and suddenly I see Old Men and Ah Peks rushing into the shop and grabbing all the wallets in sight!

*Jaw Drops*

“What? Huh? Where? What just happened?”

I was totally shocked to see so many people rush in and within seconds all of them left the shop. I was still standing outside with my plan to slowly walk in and casually take a BK Wallet. There goes my plan!

Only in Singapore can you see Old Man run so fast that he can beat you in Shutter Run in IPPT.

Time Check:- 10:33pm

Exploring Botak Favorites (Halal Version of Botak Jones)

I went on a journey last week to Simpang Bedok to search out for Botak Favorites which is a Halal version of the well known Botak Jones in Singapore.

There are 3 Botak Favorites in Singapore (at the time of this blog entry). They are at Bukit Batok, Simpang Bedok and Woodlands.

The Botak Favorites in Simpang Bedok is located at Tang Tea House. Pretty cool place. Best of all, the open carpark was just next to it. Easy access! I went in the afternoon at 2pm on a Thursday, so there wasn’t anyone else there. How awesome?!

2406201042424062010425

So after looking through the menu, I decided on getting the Whoopass Cheese Fries and the Giant Chili Dawg. Boy oh boy, I didn’t know what I was in for!

24062010427

THIS IS THE WHOOPASS CHEESE FRIES. The picture does no justice to it! It is EPIC-ly big! And it is a side dish!!! My goodness. It tasted nice and rendang-ish. But it’s not rendang. It’s their trade mark Whoopass Con Carne. It was extremely filling. This alone made me full!!

The other thing I ordered was the Giant Chili Dawg which is Hotdog with even more Whoopass Con Carne!! I didn’t take a picture of it cause I was greedily eating it and forgot to take a picture of it! My bad… But still, an overdoes of awesome food. I did finish the Giant Chili Dawg. It was just the Whoopass Cheese Fries which was too Epic for me. Did I mention there was cheese inside the fries?? I suspect its melted mozzarella cheese. Not sure. But it’s all nice!

At the end of the day, I got to say, it is good food! 3 Thumbs Up! Botak Favorites is now in my Delicious Places to Eat in Singapore list.

An Adventure To Scape and Takashimaya

On 20th June, I decided to head down to the Town area! The area around Somerset MRT station to be precise. I had 2 objectives!

Objective 1:
Head down to Takashimaya to get the Free Trial Digimon Data Cardass that was being promoted on TV countless of times

Objective 2:
See all the things at Scape. Heard there was MAGIC there.

Upon arrival at 4pm at Scape (the new shopping mall-complex), I got a flyer from the people that were giving out pamphlets. Magic show was at 3pm and at 5pm! I missed one!

Thinking everything through, I decided to head to Takashimaya first to get the Digimon Card at Basement 2 and this was what I saw:

20062010380

The amount of kids there was madness! So anyway, to get the Free Trial Card, you need to answer a few Questions from Sunflowermon (I think that’s its name).

With my answers in Hand, I then went to the counter and to my utter disappointment:-20062010376 - Copy FREE TRIAL CARD FULLY REDEEMED!

20062010383

How can it be!? The horror! The angst! The Digimon-goodness! I didn’t even get to play the free play game! Too many Kids (and Parents?)!

20062010375

So what else is left for a guy to do? Head over to Scape for the Magic Show! Before that, I wondered around and saw some nice Gundam models.

20062010385 20062010384 20062010387 20062010390

So onwards I went to Scape. Lots of cosplayers passing by around the area.

Even the Green Ranger was spotted there!

20062010399

The show was at the “Home” stage at Scape and the Magician was none other then Sherman! Cool. Haven’t seen his stage act before. It was cool. Here’s some more pictures:-

At the end of the day. After all was done, I met some street magicians from the Magic Circle who were giving out $5 Scape Voucher via a magical method. How cool is that?

20062010417Free $5 Voucher which I used to buy some Yum-Yum chocolates!

20062010422

And that was the end of the day of the Adventure TO Scape and Takashimaya! Fin.
